Longueuil police have arrested a man they believe was behind the wheel of a car that struck and critically injured a teenager in Dorval overnight.
Police say at around 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday, the boy was walking in the middle of eastbound Highway 20 when he was struck by a car whose driver fled the scene.
The accident forced the eastbound 20 to close between the Dorval Circle and 55th Ave. in Lachine for much of the morning rush hour, only reopening after 8 a.m.
At around the same time, Longueuil police caught up with a vehicle on Matte Blvd. near Taschereau Blvd. in Brossard, and arrested its driver.
The investigation has now been turned over to the Surete du Québec. They're questioning the man in his 50s, who could make a court appearance as early as Wednesday afternoon to face charges of hit-and-run causing injuries.
There is a possibility that further charges may be added after the scene is fully analyzed.
The teenager, meantime, remains in critical but stable condition in hospital. For the moment, it's not clear why he was walking in the middle of the highway in the dark.
