Cycling enthusiasts protested at Montreal City Hall's council meeting Monday evening.
The cyclists are angry over the city's decision to close Circuit Gilles Villeneuve this summer.
Construction of a 65 000 seat amphitheatre on neighbouring Ile Saint Helene has displaced events that normally take place there and moved them to the racetrack on Ile Notre Dame.
It has also closed the aquatic complex for the season.
Cyclist Uros Vokov tells CTV Montreal the city never consulted with any athletic clubs that use the track or pool.
“It's probably one of the most important training grounds for many, many athletes, be it runners, triathletes, rowers and cyclists,” he said.
The opposition has presented a petition demanding the city keep the cycling path open this summer.
The Mayor defends the inconvenience and says the 70 million dollar project will result in a better park for years to come.
