Not even two months after a coyote was caught in Kirkland after attacking a pet and its owner, a pack of them have been spotted in Cote-St-Luc.
"My mother in law saw them saw them at 6:30 in the morning,” resident Essie Vineberg told CTV Montreal. “She showed me pictures later in the morning and I couldn’t believe what I saw.”
Photos of the animals were sent to Cote-St-Luc Mayor Mitchell Brownstein, who Vineberg said promised her to get city officials involved.
Vineberg saw the animals again later in the day, and shared those photos on social media.
Concerned, having heard about the coyote in Kirkland that attacked a man and a small dog in July, she called city public security and was directed to the SPCA. However, Vineberg says she was told the SPCA could only help if the animal was injured.
Officials are now taking action.
“CP Rail will be trapping as of Oct. 25 and we’re asking the provincial government if we can trap sooner, but it’s important to note they’re not dangerous,” Mayor Brownstein confirmed. “If you don’t bother them, they won’t bother you. It’s very rare to find one in your backyard and we’ve posted steps on our website that you should take if you do see one."
