What a surprise for an elderly woman in Longueuil.
69-year old Colette Martel opened her front door Saturday morning and was greeted by over 50 police officers, contractors, and neighbors.
They were outside waiting to take over from a shady contractor who police say cheated the St Hubert woman to the tune of $90,000.
The new workers are expected to do their thing at the home during the weekend.
Martel, who friends say often worked 75-hour weeks to make ends meet, is scheduled to return Sunday at 5 pm.
The contractor, Mathieu Tardif, was arrested for breach of conditions and charged with several counts of fraud, among other things.
Martel wanted to use her home to house young adults with intellectual deficiencies.
Her roof will be fixed for free in two weeks.
