It was one of Denis Coderre's last acts as mayor.
The outgoing mayor has placed a stone he brought back from Jerusalem on the newly-installed gravestone of singer and poet Leonard Cohen.
In the Jewish tradition, stones are placed on graves as a symbol of the permanence of the person's legacy.
Coderre called Cohen one of the greatest ambassadors Montreal has ever seen.
Cohen died a year ago at the age of 82.
He died during his sleep following a fall in the middle of the night on November 7th.
Coderre was defeated in last Sunday's Montreal election.
