A Montreal radio legend hung up the microphone on Friday afternoon.
The man known to generations of Montrealers as Too Tall ended a remarkable 40-year run on the CHOM 97 7 airwaves, surrounded by friends, wellwishers, and colleagues — some of whom shed a tear or two, and offered up some touching on-air tributes.
Veteran rocker Tom Cochrane was among those who taped messages for Too Tall.
"So glad you didn't take up that career in pro basketball and decided on broadcasting instead," he says. "You've been a great one, man. Your support of Canadian culture and music in general has been immeasurable."
Mayor Denis Coderre also dropped by to pay tribute, and reminisce.
"What I love about you is you were always explaining the tunes, and where they were coming from," he said. "You were kind of a professor."
For the record, the last song he played was Jackson Browne's "The Load-Out".
