The head of Montreal's blue collar workers union is hinting that things may heat up on the labour scene next year, during the festivities for the city's 375th anniversary.
In a year-end video message to her members, Chantal Racette says the effort of every blue collar worker will be needed in 2017 to tackle issues including the negotiation of a new contract.
The union will not be in a legal strike position during the anniversary, however. Its current contract runs for another year.
In the holiday message, Racette also defends her leadership and insists that she has never encouraged violence or intimation towards others. The union has been rocked by allegations that Racette ordered a blue col to install GPS trackers on the vehicles belonging to two other members of the union.
