Quebec's independent investigation bureau is looking in to a violent crash that claimed the life of one person Friday near the Canada-U.S. border.
The fatal accident occurred at about 3:00 A.M. along route 202 in Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle.
According to the BEIs initial report, Sûreté du Québec officers clocked a vehicle doing 165 km / hour, well above the speed limit. Before the officers could pull the car over it was already gone.
Moments later, they spotted a red light in the distance. At the scene they found the speeding car, which had already crashed. The driver lost control, swerved off the road, hit a Hydro pole before landing upside down.
Firefighters were called to the scene and needed the Jaws of Life to remove the driver, who was pronounced dead.
Route 202 remains closed indefinitely.
