It looks as though the shiny new Azur metro trains will have to be modified somewhat before you can get to see more of them in the Montreal metro system.
At the moment, only one of them is actually running on the orange line, and two others are set to re-enter service by Friday.
On Jan. 14, the entire fleet of Azur cars were taken out of service after a problem was found with a piece of equipment underneath the cars that scrapes along the rails.
The contact shoes underneath the rails were found to gradually wear them down. Those are the pieces which will have to be modified before the Azur cars are to be placed back in service.
The STM will begin using the shoes on the older MR-73 cars — the ones now running on the orange line, which date back to the mid 1970s — on the Azur cars.
At the moment, the STM says there's no timetable for a full return to service for the new cars.
