A blowtorch may be behind a 4-alarm triplex fire in Verdun.
That's the theory firefighters were working on Thursday.
It's believed one of the tenants might have had a problem with a frozen pipe and tried using a blowtorch to thaw it.
The fire broke out on the first floor kitchen of the building on Rushbrook street... and quickly spread up to the roof.
"There were no injuries. The building, which contains six apartments, was evacuated and the residents are now in the care of the Red Cross", reported CTV's Denise Roberts.
The fire, which took roughly two hours to extinguish, caused quite a bit of damage to all of the building's units.
At the fire department’s request, Hydro-Quebec shut down power in the area, causing an outage that affected roughly 6,000 homes.
Fire department Chief of Operations Benoit Martel said the fire caused roughly $200,000 in damage.
The fire department says never use a blowtorch to thaw frozen pipes.
