The McGill University's Health Center's two emergency rooms were very busy following Monday's freezing rain.
ER physician Sophie Gosselin said there was a 10-fold increase in the number of falls treated compared the the normal amount for this time of year.
There were a total of 34 cases; about 11 at the Royal Victoria ER and 23 at the Montreal General, she explained in an interview with CJAD 800 News.
"We're talking mostly extremity injuries, sometimes concussion, but mostly extremity injury to the wrists or to the ankle, sometimes on the elbow, which ever part of the body seems to land on the ground first", said Gosselin.
She added in same cases there were broken bones, in others, it was a sprain.
According to Gosselin, some of those injuries are the result of pedestrians wearing inappropriate footwear.
