A vigil to honor the memory of Fr. Emmett Johns is set for Wednesday afternoon at 5 o'clock at Emilie-Gamelin Park — aka Berri Square.
Fr. Johns — known affectionately to just about every Montrealer as 'Pops' — died Saturday at the age of 89.
He's best known for his work with Montreal's street kids, founding the organization which would become Dans La Rue in 1988.
Mayor Valerie Plante is due to be on hand for the commemoration.
Meanwhile, there will also be a public visitation will be held on Thursday and Friday of next week at Montreal City Hall, on Jan. 25 and 26.
His funeral will take place on Saturday, Jan. 27 at the downtown St. Patrick's Basilica.
Further details on those two events are expected shortly.
