Monday is Victoria Day — or the Journée Nationale des Patriotes, as it's known in Quebec.
Whatever it's called, it's a day off for most people, and that means that many services and businesses won't be operating on a normal schedule.
Here's a partial list of what will, and what won't, this holiday Monday:
• Most government offices — federal, provincial and municipal
• The municipal court
• Banks
• No mail delivery or pickup
• Post offices, except for postal counters located inside private businesses. They can choose to remain open or not.
• Most malls, grocery stores and pharmacies
• SAQ outlets
• Smaller grocery stores, deps, hair salons and other service-based businesses can open at their leisure. You might want to call ahead, just to avoid any nasty surprises.
• 3-1-1, the city of Montreal's information hotline (to check up on city services like swimming pools, sports centres, libraries and garbage pickup. Opening hours — or openings, period — vary from borough to borough, and town to town.)
• public markets and farmer's markets
• Most of the city's major attractions, such as the Casino, Botanical Gardens, Insectarium, Planetarium and the Science Centre (keep in mind — the Biodome is closed for renovations until summer 2019)
• This is La Ronde's first weekend of operation this season. It'll be open today.
• Buses, metros and RTM trains will operate on Sunday schedules. Only two RTM lines will be running — the Vaudreuil-Hudson and St. Jerome lines. (The Deux-Montagnes line, which would normally be running on holidays, is being shut down for construction work on the new REM network.)
• Parking meters don't take a holiday. All parking restrictions are in force as well.
