Voters in four Quebec ridings will head to the polls in provincial byelections in early December.
Premier Philippe Couillard made the announcement in Quebec City today.
The ridings are Verdun, Arthabaska, Saint-Jerome, and Marie-Victorin.
The byelections on Dec. 5 will be the first test for new Parti Quebecois Leader Jean-François Lisée.
The riding of Verdun has been a Liberal stronghold for decades, while the PQ are hoping to hold on to St. Jerome, which was once held by former leader Pierre Karl Péladeau, and Marie-Victorin, once held by Bernard Drainville.
The other riding, Arthabaska, was held by the Sylvie Roy, the former CAQ member-turned-independent who died this past July.
The governing Liberals have 69 of the 125 seats in the National Assembly, compared with 28 for the PQ, 20 for the CAQ and three for Quebec solidaire. There is also one independent.
