When Denis Coderre was mayor, there was never a question of his attending exhibition major league baseball games at Olympic Stadium.
His successor, Valerie Plante, has indicated she won't be attending next Monday and Tuesday's games at the Big O between the Toronto Blue Jays and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Unlike in past years, this year's exhibition games will be taking place on weekdays, instead of on Friday and Saturday. Plante spokesperson Youssef Amane says this year's games clash with the monthly city council meeting on Monday night, and Quebec budget day on Tuesday.
The City of Montreal will be represented by two executive committee members, Rosannie Filato and Hadrien Parizeau, both responsible for sports and leisure.
Plante is on record as saying she isn't opposed to having Major League Baseball return to Montreal, but won't commit public money toward a new ballpark unless the people approve of that.
