Projet Montreal mayoralty hopeful Valerie Plante wants to put up little paradise, buy un-paving a parking lot.
Plante was on the mountain on Wednesday, talking about making the area around the old Royal Victoria Hospital accessible to Montrealers as greenspace.
She said if she becomes mayor, she would like to negotiate with McGill University to make that land, including its parking lots, public — and would also like to reopen a so-called "secret pool" behind the building, which had long been used by McGill students for parties.
The pool hasn't been in use since a drowning happened there in 2013. Plante says there are no public pools in the Ville-Marie borough, except for the one in Parc Jean-Drapeau.
“What I'm saying to Montrealers is that I want to go and negotiate with McGill or other promoters to make sure this pool stays accessible for all Montrealers and that we create a new greenspace for Montreal families.”
