The Plante administration has named opposition councillor Hadrien Parizeau — Jacques Parizeau's grandson — to the city's executive committee, as the member responsible for sports, recreation and youth.
Parizeau, 27, was elected for the first time under the Team Coderre banner last Nov. 5 as a councillor for the St. Sulpice district in Ahuntsic. He will remain a member of Ensemble Montreal, the moniker the party adopted after former mayor Denis Coderre left municipal politics.
Parizeau takes over some of the duties from Villeray councillor Rosannie Filato, who holds on to the social, community development and the condition of women.
At Monday morning's announcement at City Hall, Parizeau initially refused to answer questions from journalists in English, suggesting at first it was because of "a few reasons". Then, after a lengthy hesitation, he explained English wasn't his first language, and that he was nervous about his English.
He did eventually answer a question in more-than-acceptable English.
