Denis Coderre says Valerie Plante and her administration have made their bed and now they have to lie in it.
"People, when they are in power, must make their decisions, they must take responsibility and live with them," said the former mayor while attending the funeral on Saturday for Father Emmett Johns, the founder of the homeless youth aid and support network Dans La Rue.
In breaking his silence, Coderre offered his first political comments since being defeated by Plante in the municipal election last November.
The mayor was asked by reporters what he thought of the Plante administration's recent tax increase, which will see taxpayers pay on average 3.3 per cent more to the municipality.
Mayor Plante was unavailable to comment on Saturday.
Coderre wouldn't comment on what his political future could be, saying he was simply there to "pay tribute to Father Pops.
