Extra security guards have been hired and the University of Quebec at Montreal has installed surveillance cameras in the Department of Philosophy following several hate-related incidents of graffiti targeting women.
Radio-Canada reports there were at least four incidents between November 20 and November 28.
School administrators say they increased security on the fifth floor of the Paul-Gérin-Lajoie Pavilion on St-Denis Street near Rene-Levesque Boulevard after a number of women, including staff and students, came forward to say they no longer felt safe to the point that they refused to enter the department.
