Chambly has lifted a boil water advisory issued Monday for the entire city.
City officials say a water main break at the Chambly-Marieville-Richelieu water treatment plant has been temporarily repaired and tests show the water quality is good.
The initial advisory was scheduled to be in effect for at least seven days.
Residents were told to boil their tap water for at least a minute before consuming it or they must use bottled water.
They were also being advised to use as little water as possible to reduce pressure on the system.
Other recommendations from the city:
- use bottled water for drinking, to prepare baby formula, to brush teeth, to make ice and to prepare food that is eaten raw;
- throw away any ice, drinks or food that was prepared with tap water after 10:45 a.m. Monday, October 22;
- schools, businesses and institutions must tell their clientele they can't drink the tap water; they must also cut water supply to drinking fountains and supply drinking water during the advisory;
- you can use hot tap water that isn't boiled to wash dishes that must be well dried afterwards;
- you can also use tap water that isn't boiled to wash clothes and to take baths and showers but make sure that children don't swallow any of the water while they're washing otherwise a sponge bath or using a washcloth is preferable
