The search for Yvon Lacasse has been suspended until Monday morning, but Provincial police say the motorcyclist sought as an important witness in the disappearance has reported to authorities.
The 71-year-old Gore resident is connected to the recent Amber Alert involving a six-year old boy and subsequent arrest of the boy's father. On Sunday, nearly 200 volunteers showed up in Lachute to help the SQ with the ongoing ground and air searches for Lacasse.
Lucie Lacasse, the missing man’s niece, came from the Ottawa area to spend the weekend searching for her uncle.
“It’s our family, we need to find him,” she said. “In my mind, it’s for certain he was taken hostage by this man. It’s out of character for him. It was his character to help, but I think he had no choice.”
Yvon Lacasse has not been seen since the grey Honda he drives was found by police. The boy had been in the vehicle with his father, shortly before his father was arrested by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
The suspect in the abduction of the six-year-old boy was supposed to be transferred to Quebec after a brief Ontario court appearance on Saturday. That is now delayed.
The father suffered "unspecified injuries" after his court appearance and he is now in an Ottawa hospital. The suspect's injuries have also been reported as self-inflicted, but neither the OPP, nor SQ would confirm whether that was the case.
Meantime, Quebec police are now asking for help locating another important witness to the child abduction, related to the murder of the six-year-old boy's mother.
