The investigation into toppled and smashed gravestones in Longueuil ramped up Wednesday.
After announcing more than 60 headstones were damaged at the St-Antoine-de-Padoue cemetery on Chambly Rd. between November 24 and December 4, it was revealed a second cemetery was also hit by vandals, bringing the number of stones vandalized close to 100.
Dozens of tombstones were knocked over in the Cimitiere Regional St-Maxime on Sir-Wilfrid-Laurier Blvd. in Saint-Hubert sometime between December 3 and 4.
Longueuil police say they are taking the investigation seriously.
"I can only imagine if it was my father's tombstone that was knocked off, I'd be pretty upset," police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Voutsinos told CTV Montreal. "That's why we're really hoping people will call us and give us information to bring the perpetrators to justice."
