Good news for residents of Rigaud, West of Montreal. Town officials hope water consumption restrictions can be lifted as early as Wednesday afternoon after urgent repairs are completed on a critical piece of equipment that put water reserves out of reach.
Rigaud spokesperson, Marie Andrée Gagnon, says specialized equipment and outside experts were called in to carry out the work.
"They started Monday and they have (worked) for about two of three days and it's going well so far. And citizens are really collaborating. We want to thank them," said Gagnon.
The special equipment isn't what's being replaced, it's being used to fix the problem located deep underground near the centre of downtown Rigaud.
The weekend breakdown left much of the municipality with about fifty percent water capacity and pressure. More worrisome was the inability to access water reserves in an emergency.
Gagnon says Rigaud's reserve is ok, noting the well has water in it, but that they just weren't able to go get it.
"So, once it's fixed the situation will be back to normal...and hopefully it might be Wednesday afternoon, if everything goes well."
Rigaud's water supply continues to be safe to drink.
