A watermain break on Thursday has led to a boil water advisory from eastern Pointe-St-Charles across the Old Port over to St-Helene's Island, city officials say.
Workers with a private contractor ruptured the pipe around 3 p.m., forcing the closure of the Montreal Casino for about four hours.
According to Loto-Quebec, up to 1000 people were evacuated.
Water was gradually being restored to affected homes and businesses, but a preventative boil-water advisory is being put in place for certain areas, including: Habitat 67, Notre-Dame Island, Saint Helen's Island, and a sector of Bridge St. in the Sud-Ouest borough near the Costco. Affected residents and businesses will be informed, a city spokeswoman told CJAD 800.
Analysis on the extent of repair work to be done to the pipe is ongoing. An update should be made on Friday
