After three decades in business, the flower stand in Philips Square on Ste-Catherine St. is being forced to close.
"Waking up in the morning is really hard, you know, because everyday is like a new fight," Liudmila Zoueva, owner of Marché aux fleurs du Square Phillips, told CJAD 800 News.
Plans for the new square, being renovated at a cost of over $130 million as part of street-wide redevelopments to Ste-Catherine, always included her kiosk and the maple products stand also in the square, she said.
But earlier this week, Zoueva says the city mailed them a letter saying their shops would be demolished and would not be coming back as part of the reimagined square.
"We didn't have any notice before and we don't think this decision was made one day to another, it's a decision that is made before, over several months," Zoueva said.
She was advised she had to close by the end of December; after meeting with officials that has been extended to 2018, but she is still being forced to shut down.
A spokesperson for the city said on Sunday the Executive Committee would study the issue and decide on the kiosks' future.
While that gives her hope, Zoueva says she will continue to fight to keep her store from being forced out.
"We'll continue, we cannot stop on the hope that they said they maybe are going to [re-examine] our case," she said.
