One of Quebec's top ten most wanted criminals is off the street following a Montreal police operation early on Saturday morning in the city's Griffintown neighbourhood.
Police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils confirmed to CJAD800 that alleged gang hitman, Frederick Silva, was arrested without incident not long after midnight. The arrest follows at least a year-and-nine-months of searching.
"Frederick Silva have been arrested around 1:AM by the Montreal Police SWAT Team," said Chèvrefils. "He is still in custody right now and he is being met by the investigators and he is supposed to be in Court (Saturday) afternoon."
Silva was on Quebec's top-ten most wanted criminals list and was a priority of Montreal Police. He was also the subject of a joint investigation of Major Crimes and the Organized Crimes divisions since before Christmas.
A cross-Canada arrest warrant had been issued for Silva related to the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old man in the parking lot of an NDG strip club in May 2017.

Silva is also suspected in the attempted assassination of alleged Mafia clan leader Salvatore Scoppa earlier the same year, as well as at least a dozen other serious crimes - including at least one other murder.
