The city of Montreal is providing free public transit for the weekend to help you get around during the Formula E race.
The race has a lot of roads closed along the route in the eastern part of downtown and there are more closures to come as race day approaches.
The STM says you can use city buses and the metro for free, starting from five Saturday morning, until one on Monday morning.
You don't need to have a bus pass.
And, the city says you'll be able to use BIXI bikes for free as well over the weekend.
While public transit will be free for users, it does cost money—and revenues are lost from rides given for free.
The RTM, the new regional transport authority, tells CJAD 800 News the funding model indicates cities bear "some of the costs associated associated with the use of services by their citizens."
"We will have to assess the costs of this free service and ensure that they are paid equitably," a spokesperson said in an email. "We understand the context in which the STM offers free services for the coming weekend, and the desire to make traveling downtown and on the island more fluid is commendable."
