The father of a six-year-old boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert appeared in an Ontario court Saturday and was to be transferred back to Quebec.
But, late in the afternoon, he was taken to hospital with what's been described as self-inflicted wounds.
It wasn't clear if the transfer would be made on Saturday as planned.
The boy vanished from St-Eustache, northwest of Montreal, on Thursday and his father was apprehended in Ontario nearly 24 hours later.
By then, the body of the boy's mother had also been discovered in the family home in St Eustache.
Ontario police said they couldn't comment on what charges the man might face in his home province, and police in Quebec did not respond to requests for comment on that matter.
The names of the father and boy, along with the boy's mother, can no longer be used publicly pending a child services proceeding.
