Access has been restored to popular Facebook social media sites and apps after experiencing a significant outage this morning.
For more than two hours Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook's Messenger service were all down, becoming unavailable arounf 6:30am on Sunday morning.
It seems to have been a global problem, with thousands of reported outages concentrated in northeastern U.S., Canada, Europe and the Philippines. Facebook has not provided information on what the cause of the technical problem was.
About a month ago, the same applications were unavailable for hours due to a server problem.
