UPDATE: Provincial police say Zachary Bourgon has been found safe and sound. They say he went to the beach with friends on Monday afternoon, without informing his parents of his whereabouts. A previous version of this story follows.
Police in Shawinigan say an 7-year-old boy went missing this morning in the town's St. Georges de Champlain district.
Authorities say Zachary Bourgon left home to bike to a friend's house, but the friend wasn't home, so he left. He didn't return to his parents' home for lunch, and didn't contact his parents to tell them he wouldn't be home.
Zachary stands four feet, seven inches tall, and weighs 68 pounds. He has light brown hair and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a black shirt with red on the back, pale-colored shorts and blue and orange running shoes.
On Monday afternoon, police confirmed they found Zachary's grey bike, which was found about a kilometre away from his family's home, in a neighborhood where he's known to have friends.
Authorities are now contacting people in the neighborhood, in an effort to find out where Zachary might have gone.
If anyone sees the child, they should contact 9-1-1.
