A four-year-old boy died in a fire that tore through a home in the Eastern Townships on Friday night, officials confirmed.
The mother of the young victim and her other two-year-old son were able to escape the flames, suffering minor burns. They were hospitalized, to be treated for smoke inhalation.
It was smoke detectors in the home that alerted the woman and allowed her to save her younger son, firefighters say, while the other boy was lost in the dense smoke.
His body was found in the rubble on Saturday morning.
The fire broke out around midnight in the home, location on des Cajuns St.
Dunham firefighters got help from four surrounding municipalities in extinguishing the blaze.
The father was absent at the time of the fire. Upon arrival at the scene, he suffered a nervous shock and was also hospitalized.
The investigation is now in the hands of the Sûreté du Québec.
