The head of Quebec's UPAC anti-corruption squad is using Quebec's election day to announce he'll be stepping down next month.
Robert Lafrenière's last day on the job will be Nov. 2.
A spokesperson for UPAC isn't hinting at a reason for Lafrenière's departure.
He's been on the job since 2011, and his term was due to expire in 2021.
In 2016, he was criticized for ordering the arrest of former Liberal minister Nathalie Normandeau, on the same day the Liberal government tabled a budget. In the run-up to the 2018 election, the three opposition parties suggested that any future prospective UPAC heads be approved by a two-thirds vote of the National Assembly.
