The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a lot more parents inquiring about how to homeschool their kids, according to the Quebec Association for Homeschooling.
"It's crazy," says the Association's director Noemi Berlus. "People are curious right now. We don't know how many of those people will actually turn out for homeschool, but what we're seeing is a lot of people who've been toying with the idea of homeschooling over the past few years have been taking the plunge."
She says many of those parents have expressed their concerns about health and safety at regular schools, and about how the school year will actually play out in the age of social distancing.
"Parents are completely confused," Berlus says. "They don't know what to say to their kids. They don't know how to plan their days...so many of them are taking things into their own hands, and making sure they have a stable option for their children."
Parents who want to go through with homeschooling their kids can pretty much wait until the first day of school to register with the government.
Berlus says quite a few parents are waiting for the education minister to unveil the government's latest back-to-school plans before going ahead. The revised plan is expected to be announced next week.
