Quebec's Health minister has announced ultrasounds performed by radiologists in Quebec’s private medical clinics will now be covered under Medicare.
Gaetan Barette says in a statement, as a result, the procedure's accessibility's will be increased and the move will also accelerate patient care.
However, the Quebec Association of Radiologists has yet to hammer out a deal with the province on how to implement the change.
President Dr. Vincent Oliva describes the transition as too fast, adding hospitals have five times more ultrasound devices compared to the private network.
According to Oliva, as part of any adjustment, there's a “surplus capacity” in hospitals that should have been exploited.
