Mayor Denis Coderre is floating the idea of placing tolls on Montreal roads to help finance public transit.
Coderre's comments in a Radio Canada interview come after Thursday's announcement by Toronto Mayor John Tory that he will put a proposal to city council to place tolls on the Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner Expressway.
Tory says a $2 per vehicle charge would generate revenue of $200 million per year to help finance public transit.
Coderre says he discussed the issue with Tory during their recent joint economic mission to Israel.
The Montreal mayor was opposed to tolls for the new Champlain Bridge but says public transit tolls are another matter and all possible sources of revenue should be considered.
