Provincial police are reporting two so-called 'scary clown' incidents on the south shore on Wednesday night.
They arrested two teenagers wearing clown suits who tried to attack other youths in separate attacks in the towns of St. Remi and Ste. Clothilde.
The first incident happened at a park in St. Remi at around 9:30 on Wednesday night, when one of the clowns moved in on a group of teenagers at a playing field. Most of the teens ran away, but one of the teens fell. The clown caught up with him and grabbed him. He was not hurt.
The clown, meantime, fled to the neighboring municipality of Ste. Clothilde, where a similar attack happened on a group of youths near a church.
One of the teens appeared in a Longueuil courtroom on Thursday, facing charges of assault with a weapon. The other was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
There've been several other 'scary clown' attacks across the continent over the past few weeks, and the SQ is reminding people that scaring and intimidating others in that way could constitute a criminal act.
