Some people want Airbnb to be banned in Quebec.
The housing committees for the Plateau and La Petite Patrie see what's happening in New York, where 10 per cent of all apartments have been lost to and converted into Air B n B rentals.
The Plateau's Philippe Desmarais says when there's too much demand and not enough supply of apartments, rents have to go up.
"There's nothing left on the market, so people will accept because there's nothing else and there's too much competition", said Desmarais.
One woman claims she had to fight to fight to keep her home once her landlord realized what he could make if he got her out and rented to tourists instead.
"Once they evict somebody, it can be something like $10,000 more apartment per year", she said.
