Two men in their 30s have been charged with a host of crimes including breaking and entering in the case of four recent robberies at synagogues around Montreal.
The men were arrested and appeared in court Friday to be arraigned on charges.
This followed a rabbi at the Chabad House in N.D.G. sharing over Facebook security video footage of a break-in on Oct. 7. A man can be seen in the video standing at the front of the building around midnight, disappearing from camera view and returning about five minutes later and prying open the front door.
A donations box was robbed of about $500, according to Rabbi Yisroel Bernath, who added that it appears whoever was behind the theft knew where to look.
It was the fourth break-in at a Montreal synagogue since September. About two weeks ago, a Cote-St-Luc synagogue was robbed of a few hundred dollars. In late September, two synagogues were hit in the span of a week. In both cases money and electronics were stolen.
