Two people died after a car drove off a dock and plunged into Lac-St-Louis in Lachine Tuesday evening.
Witnesses called 9-1-1 at about 6:30 P.M. after seeing the car go over the edge of a parking lot near the corner of 34th and St-Joseph Blvd.
The car had been parked in the parking lot next to Parc Saint-Louis when it suddenly moved forward. The two people inside were not able to get out in time.
"It was teetering for a few moments," said witness Gilbert St. Onge. "By the time I got there the car had completely gone over, nose first."
One young man at the scene dove into the water in an attempt to help the two people inside escape the vehicle.
"He could not do anything because by that time the car was sinking very quickly," said St. Onge.
The bodies of the a man and woman, believed to be between 25 and 30-years-old were pulled from the car shortly before midnight.
Investigators are trying to determine what could have caused the car to drive off the edge of the dock.
