A wild night in Pointe-Aux-Trembles ended with two dead, one person in hospital and a police chase to the South Shore Sunday.
The incident began at about 11:00 P.M. in the Esso parking lot at the corner of Sherbrooke and Saint-Jean-Baptiste.
For an unknown reason, a 21-year-old man opened fire, hitting one woman at least once in the upper body. Nearby police officers quickly responded to the calls to 9-1-1. The suspect fled the scene in the victim's car.
The 49-year-old woman, who was on her way to pick up her daughter, was taken to hospital in a critical condition but later died from her injuries.
The vehicle was found not far at the corner of Saint-Jean-Baptiste and Notre Dame, abandoned after it had been in an accident. A witness told officers they saw a man exit the car and run off.
Moments later another call to 9-1-1 was made by a nearby resident, saying an armed man was at his door demanding the key to his car. The suspect shot through the door, hitting the man in the leg.
The resident is expected to recover.
After stealing a second car, the suspect took Montreal police on a chase that ended when officers lost track of the vehicle near the Lafontaine tunnel on Route 132.
However, the story does not end there.
Provincial and Longueuil police spotted the car, which ended up in the ditch near the intersection of Highway 30 and Highway 10.
The suspect attempted to evade police custody on foot, heading towards the Quartier Dix30, where he was quickly arrested in the parking lot.
During the investigation overnight, police found the body of a man in his 20s in a home at the corner of Sainte-Catherine St. and 1st Ave. Investigators are trying to determine if the murder is connected to the same shooter.
