Prime Minister Justin Trudeau dropped by Montreal's City Hall on Tuesday morning for his first official meeting with Montreal mayor Valerie Plante.
Trudeau told reporters that the federal government's forthcoming cannabis regulations were on the agenda, as well as housing and Plante's much-touted proposal for a pink metro line.
“Great meeting with the mayor," Trudeau said of their half-hour meeting. "It was an opportunity to talk about our many shared values. For me as a Montrealer, I have a special interest in seeing that she does well. But we’re well aligned and very excited about the work we’re going to be doing together.”
Plante, for her part, suggested her pink line proposal was very well received by the prime minister — and now, the important thing would be to properly prepare the case for her crosstown metro line before presenting it to the feds when it comes time to getting funding to build it.
“Not only is more transport a way to do social development but also economic development, so we agree on that," she said.
On Monday, Trudeau met with newly-elected officials in the Villeray-St. Michel-Park Extension borough, including the new mayor Giuliana Fumagalli.
The borough takes in much of the prime minister's Papineau riding.
