Mayor Valerie Plante gathered her newly constituted executive committee on Wednesday for its first meeting. It ran late, and Plante says there's a lot to discuss.
Among other things, she says they're trying to adjust to a wildly different budget than anticipated.
The biggest priorities remain transit and housing, and they hope to change the pit bull ban as soon as possible — shifting the rules from breed-specific legislation to laws that target irresponsible owners of dogs of all breeds.
Plante also issued her first executive order — making it mandatory for visitors to City Hall to sign in at the door.
'One of the executive orders we gave this morning is about transparency at City Hall," she says.
Meanwhile, Plante says she's excited about one upcoming visitor in particular — former U.S. vice-president Joe Biden is expected to drop by City Hall.
"When I heard he asked to meet me, I was very happy about that," she said.
Plante has a busy travel schedule coming up as well, with a meeting in Toronto next week with mayors of major Canadian cities.
Next month, she'll travel to Chicago for a summit of mayors from around the world to discuss climate change. Then, she'll be off to Paris for the One Planet Summit.
