The fares for using public transit across the region are soon going to be reviewed from top to bottom so that the Greater Montreal Transit Authority can simplify its fares-schedule by the end of 2019.
Right now, there are 789 different fares in place and it takes 37 pages to explain them all.
The Transit Authourity has looked at models in several other cities including: Vancouver, Barcelona, Paris, London and Chicago. They've also posted an online survey*to their website, which will test users' openness to a variety of possible solutions.
A public consultation is also scheduled to take place in the New year, according to a report by La Presse, with the new fee schedule expected by the end of 2019... and should gradually come into effect between 2020 until 2022 to coincide with the start of service of the new Metropolitan Express Network service.
*The website is French-only, but does offer the survey to users in either French or English.
