Tired of waiting for the bus with no idea when it is actually coming? A transportation app is pledging to accomplish what the STM has yet to do: provide real-time bus locations and ETAs.
Transit, an app used around the world and developed right here in Montreal, is beginning what it calls the "first ever (not totally terrible) crowdsourced transit tracker."
The app claims it takes only one user to get things off the ground.
"With just one person running GO on each vehicle, we’re able to produce accurate real-time predictions for the entire transit network," read an announcement posted to Medium. "It’s like tracking your Uber. No big lags. No big jumps."
The STM has been working on a real-time bus tracker for years now, promising in 2014 that it would be released this year. Earlier this month, the STM projected the app would be available in the first half of 2017.
