Commuters beware: rising floodwaters have prompted the closure of the Galipeault Bridge, according to Transport Quebec, and it is up in the air when the bridge will reopen.
"It will surely have an impact on traffic tomorrow morning," Martin Girard with Transport Quebec told CJAD 800 late on Sunday.
The transport department is advising driverse to carpool or take public transit if possible, Girard added.
CJAD 800 traffic expert Rick Leckner, who has reported on Montreal traffic for decades and is on Transport Quebec’s committee on traffic mobility, is anticipating a difficult drive for those coming into Montreal from the west of the island come Monday.
"There are very few options out in that area of the island, that'll basically only leave the Ile-aux-Tortes Bridge open, so I suspect it will put a lot of pressure on [the span]," he said.
"I'm also convinced that that's not going to be the only spot effected by the flooding [during rush hour ... ] so it's going to be a challenging morning to say the least.
