A longtime staple of the federal and provincial political arenas will join CJAD 800 and CTV News channel as a political analyst.
Starting Aug. 28, former NDP leader Tom Mulcair will bring his unique insights on politics to CJAD 800 twice daily — with Andrew Carter at 7:35 a.m., and with Aaron Rand at 5:05 p.m. He'll touch on federal, provincial and American politics, and offer day-by-day analysis of the upcoming Quebec election campaign.
He'll also appear on CTV News Channel twice a week.
Mulcair, a lawyer and father of two, spent more than a decade in Quebec City as the Liberal MNA for Chomedey. He served as the province's environment minister under Jean Charest from 2003 to 2006 before making the jump to federal politics.
In 2007, he became only the second-ever New Democrat to win a seat in the House of Commons, winning the Outremont seat which had been vacated by the resignation of the late Jean Lapierre. Five years later, he became the NDP's leader and Leader of the Official Opposition following the death of Jack Layton.
Late last year, he officially announced his departure from politics, and has since accepted a teaching position at the University of Montreal, which will begin in the fall.
