With the Montreal area getting its first snowfall of the winter season, there's a warning for commuters to stay safe on the roads from the city, while the Sûreté du Québec is advising motorists to get those winter tires on a few weeks early.
While there is still almost a month until the Dec. 15 deadline for all vehicles on Quebec roads to have their winter tires on, the provincial police force said--well before Environment Canada issued a special weather statement about the snow--that weather conditions could "deteriorate" well before then.
The fine for those caught driving without winter tires on their cars between Dec. 15 and March 15 is a minimum of $200, fines not included.
Because of the snow, the City of Montreal is advising drivers to be extra vigilant on the roads, and echoes the police recommendation to swap out the all-season tires as soon as possible.
