Thousands in communities north of Montreal have lost electricity. Hydro Quebec says most of the outages are due to wind gusts, which peaked at 83 km/h earlier this afternoon, according to Environment Canada. The gusting winds broke tree branches, damaging power lines.
The hardest-hit areas are the Laurentians, where around 4,000 are out of power, and in Lanaudière, where 1,800 are without power.
The crown corporation says it is working to ensure customers get power restored soon.
