A 38-year-old man spent an hour and a half hitched to the back of a semi-trailer going through the Parc des Laurentides on Wednesday morning — in the middle of a snowstorm — trying to get all the way to Montreal.
The man, said to be from Latin America, managed to get on the back of the truck at a service station in the community of St. Bruno, in the Lac St. Jean region, and then hung on to the doors of the container.
The Journal de Montreal reports he managed to make it 115 kilometres hanging on to the back of the truck before the driver noticed he was there — but not before other motorists tried to catch the driver's attention by honking at him, and before one of the other motorists posted a photo of what he saw to Facebook.
All the while, the snow was flying, and when he was found, the truck driver told the paper he was "frozen like a snowball".
The man, suffering from a mild case of hypothermia, was taken to hospital. For the moment, he won't be charged with a crime, but the SQ did hand him a $1,000 ticket for car-surfing.
