Police in Deux-Montagnes are investigating an especially untimely pre-Christmas robbery.
They say in the early morning hours of last Saturday, thieves broke into the Holy Family Church in Deux-Montagnes and made off with about $3,000 worth of food destined for food baskets. Those baskets were to be given out to needy families in Deux-Montagnes over the weekend.
Police suggest the thieves managed to break in through a window and made off with several food baskets, as well as bags of apples, pies and dozens of packets of processed cheese.
An official at the Dépannage Saint-Agapit, which organized the food basket drive, says it went on as planned at the church on Saturday morning — though the baskets were a little lighter than planned.
The group works throughout the year to tend to the needs of families in Deux-Montagnes.
